<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">For my upcoming talk to the Madison County Historical, SPIRITUALITY AND REFORM IN THE BURNED-OVER DISTRICT(3/22/17) I decided to use a picture of Spirit House to promote the event. After all, many in Madison County know me for creating the Spirit House Society to try and save and restore Spirit House by turning it into a Historic Home--Spiritual Retreat. Spiritualism also played a major role in reform in the Burned-over District.

<span style="font-family: "\22 verdana\22 " , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">When Rexie, the women who thwarted our effort by purchasing the home for herself heard about this she began to complain vociferously. Eventually the picture was removed. Evidently she claims that no one can take a picture of Spirit House, or talk about Spirit House in any manor with our her permission and paying her a royalty. Where did she get this idea from? Several of the pictures below refer to this bizarre notion.
<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"><span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">Rexie also indicated that she needs to set the recored straight on Timothy Brown (the man that built Spirit House.) Evidently she has some insider, or special information about him. Personally I had thought Spirit House Society Board Member Jocelyn Godwin<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> (retired Colgate University Professor that has written about 20 books) did an incredible job with his book on Spirit House<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">, which he again referenced in Upstate Cauldron<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">You and I are within our rights to photograph Spirit House, a nationally registered historic, from the street as long as we are not on her property.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">When I heard all this I decided it was time to visit Spirit House and post some pictures on the Spirit House Society Blog<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">. Not only to express my and SHS member's opinion on this matter, but to catalogue the continued deterioration of this grand and majestic historic home that sits on a very sacred site.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It is has been over five and a half years since Rexie purchased Spirit House. NOTHING HAS BEEN DONE TO PRESERVE, RESTORE OR EVEN MAINTAIN THE HOUSE; NOT EVEN A COAT OF PAINT TO COVER THE the many areas of BARE EXPOSED WORD. IT HAS CONTINUED TO DETERIORATE.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">It is important to catalogue the deterioration of this home for history. Before we distributed the money we had raised to Madison County not-for-profits ( Gerrit Smith Estate<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">, Madison Hall in Morrisville)<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;"> there was a discussion of whether we should pay for a professional photographer to photograph the home and send the pictures to NYS Archives; but we felt that we had enough pictures and could catalogue the decline as I am now doing.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">The pictures below show the deterioration. I am surprised that Code Enforcement has not fined her for the condition of the home and the circus of junk on the property.

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">

<span style="font-family: "verdana" , sans-serif;">There is a chance you might see a Spirit House Picture at my talk on the 22nd in Oneida to Madison County Historical Society. In the mean time go visit and take some pictures and tell everybody about the tragedy that has befallen Spirit House.

The funds have been disbursed see below. A few of us made an effort to try to see if we could donate to an organization in Georgetown, Unfortunately, the Georgetown Historical Society is not a registered 501-c3 so we could not donate to them. We tried Muller Hill and the DEC and that did not work out; although signs at Muller Hill will now be painted and new ones put in, so we had some affect. We looked at....

As was discussed we donated to the Gerrit Smith estate ($1,340) and Madison Hall ($500), and $41.13 will be applied to buy park benches at Onondaga Lake at a future date.

Thanks for everyone's help and interest in our effort to buy Spirit House.

I will continue to post occasionally if I hear something; if nothing else keep a historical record of the house's deterioration.

I imagine the house will again come up for sale, but given Rexie's lack of upkeep and maintainance not much of it will be left.
Dear Spirit House Society Member,

I hope that all has been well with you.

This fall will mark four years since Spirit House was purchased by one of our members, Resurreccion Dimaculangan, for her own use. While our effort disbanded I did not distribute the $1,900 we had raised after expenses to other non-profits. I would like to do that now.

Sadly, it appears that Rexi has done nothing to preserve Spirit House. The paint has continued to peel and some parts of the house such as the sunroom, on the south side, are almost all bare wood. The lawn looks like it has not been mowed this year and is over a foot high. There are dozens of connected white half barrels on the front lawn that are collecting water and mildew. My understanding is that the barrels were supposed to be some sort of a fence. I will send you a separate email with some pictures; I am not attaching them to this email as I am concerned that they might be flagged as spam.

My inclination is to donate the money to non-profits in Madison County where Spirit house is located. Many in Madison County were helpful and encouraging to our effort. In particular I am thinking of the Abolitionist Hall of Fame in Peterboro and Madison Hall in Morrisville. Dot Willsey of the Abolitionist Hall of Fame tabled at our events and was very helpful and informative to my queries. Although our event at Madison Hall was not the success we hoped for, Mountain Bob treated us like royalty and were accommodated as to the charge.

I welcome input on where you would like the money to go. As I noted my inclination is to donate it to organizations that were helpful to our effort.

You have some time; so reflect on what you think should be done and email me. I would like to have resolved this by yearend.

I look forward to hearing from you.

Conway
(Georgetown, NY – May 2012) The Georgetown Town Council scheduled a public informational meeting May 1 to answer questions about an application by Resurreccion Dimaculangan, new owner of the Spirit House, for a tax exemption for the property. The meeting, which was sparsely attended, was a precursor to a public hearing scheduled during the board’s regular meeting May 8.
“The public hearing is May 8,” said Supervisor David L. Coye of the May 1 special meeting. “People in the town had questions. Apparently, not that many tonight, but this is the time to ask questions, not at the hearing.”
According to Coye, the state allows the enactment of local laws that provide exemptions on improvements to historic properties; the exemptions are used as incentives for property owners to restore and maintain their structures. He said the exemption must be applied for through the local assessor’s office, is geared toward attracting and retaining local business and applies only to improvements.
“I am requesting that town people have an open mind that allows the exemption,” Dimaculangan said, adding that the structure is not a regular house but a historic structure.
She also insisted the exemption should be for the entire assessed value of the property, such as that granted to schools and churches, not just on the improvements. Dimaculangan said she would like to have the public have a vote in preserving the historic structure, Georgetown’s only one, she said.
Coye said that while it may be the only one on the National Register of Historic Places, there are a number of historic structures in the town.
According to Dimaculangan, the structure needs about $5 million in capital investment to restore it to its former glory; she said she doesn’t have it. She said it is imperative for her to invest the smallest amount of money in the least amount of time and resources to make the Spirit House self-sufficient. She said she would like to accomplish that through government grants and memberships.
“The structure should be able to pay for its maintenance and upkeep,” Dimaculangan said, explaining her goal is to preserve the past and leave room for the future.
Dr. Joscelyn Godwin, historian and professor of music at Colgate University in Hamilton, asked how Dimaculangan planned to position the structure to support itself, if she were considering turning it into a bed and breakfast or other revenue-generating destination spot.
He said if aggressive action wasn’t taken soon to shore up some of the Spirit House’s problem areas, the structure could be permanently compromised.
Dimaculangan said she is using it as her primary residence and that her plan relies on responsible, adaptive use.
“I would not like to be pinned down by a B&B, and it would not be competitive,” she said.
Councilman Matthew Van Heusen, who also serves as code enforcement officer for the town of Lebanon, wasn’t satisfied with the vagueness of Dimaculangan’s described plan.
“As a councilman, you have to give me some kind of plan of action,” Van Heusen said. “You have a week to come up with some kind of written plan because from what I’m hearing tonight the only plan is to clean it up. How can I vote for a resolution when I don’t know what you are going to do?”
Asked repeatedly by several people present if she planned to restore the Spirit House, Dimaculangan responded with a question.
“Which past am I supposed to preserve?” she asked. “Brown’s original design or that with the renovations of Mrs. Cossitt?”
Town Clerk Sarah “Sally” Brush was one of the few attendees May 1.
“I would like to know what she is doing that she’s not going to have to pay the taxes I have to pay,” Brush said. “I’m going to side my house this year, and I know I will pay for it.”
Dimaculangan said she doesn’t ask Public Assistance, Medicaid or HEAP recipients why they are on the system and felt she should not have to explain herself locally, as she had been in contact with the U.S. Department of the Interior.
Coye said whatever improvements Dimaculangan makes to the property will be assessed in 10-perent increments each year until it is at full valuation at the end of 10 years, so she need be prepared for that.
“That is a historic house under New York State code and falls under certain standards,” Van Heusen said. “Even as a historic building, it is an existing structure. If you need a building permit, you have to provide us certain information before you get it.”
Dimaculangan said she wouldn’t abandon the project if she didn’t get local support by way of the exemption.
“It’s a special house because of its history,” she said.
When asked if the taxes were current, Dimaculangan said she had paid them. According to the tax rolls maintained by Brush, who also serves as the town’s tax collector, the taxes due Jan. 30 without penalty were turned over to the Madison County Treasurer’s Office for collection April 30.
The parcel on which the Spirit House is located is valued at $89,700; the three parcels total about $94,700.
The town board unanimously approved Dimaculangan’s request at its May 8 meeting; Councilman Bart Chapin was not in attendance. According to Coye, the board, based on the opinion of its attorney, maintains the exemption only affects the difference of improvements over assessed value.
“The exemption is for restoration and alterations only,” Coye repeated, adding that a five-member historical commission has to be established to oversee the process. “You can’t take the tax base away; that will hurt a community.”
“I disagree,” Dimaculangan said.
The Spirit House is one of three contiguous properties purchased late last year by Dimaculangan.
Georgetown’s equalization rate is at 100 percent.
“The Spirit House has a lot of potential,” Coye said. “When it is at full assessment – and that time will come – the town will benefit when that happens.”
Martha E. She implied that she was possibly interested in turning Spirit House into a museum or something similar. She gave no firm restoration plans or how the restoration would be financed.

She offered the following statement to convey to the SHS membership:
"The House is now in the hands of one individual that cares about conservation and preservation. She will honor the history and past and develop an economically sustainable structure within the town without being dragged by its spiritualist past."

We also learned that she has been living in Spirit House to save money. She was using a space heater and fireplace to keep warm.

One of our members was at a Georgetown Historical Society meeting in March were Rexie was trying to solicit interest to have her property taxes vacated. Rexie was described as being very dedicated and determined.

In late April two meetings where held in Georgetown where Rexie presented her case for why she should not have to pay property taxes for Spirit House. The town board eventually agreed to reduce taxes on any subsequent improvements to the house—a ten year hiatus on any improvements that would increase at a 10% rate per year. For example, if $100,000 in improvements were made the 1st year there would be no tax on the improvements, Year 2 taxes would be paid on $10,000, Year 2 pay taxes on $20,000 and year 10 she would have to pay taxes on the full $100,000.

No tax abatement was given on the house. She has to pay the full property taxes on $97,000.

At the meetings there were several queries about finances and restoration plans. Rexie said that there was $5,000 to $6,000 at hand for restoration work and that she was going to apply for a grant for the rest. I believe that I was told that she expected that the restoration costs for Spirit House to be about $5 million.

I will keep you posted on further developments.

Thanks,

Madis Senner
www.spirithousesociety.orgmadis sennerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11542103505479015230noreply@blogger.com2tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975659294375597739.post-76935644740600405052011-11-06T19:06:00.000-08:002011-11-06T19:10:26.097-08:00Friends,

Spirit House was sold on Friday (11/4/11). The following was sent to me by one of our members:
"There was a closing this morning (Friday) on the property in Georgetown (in fact- closing on house and 2 vacant properties). The deeds went on record to Resurreccion Dimaculangan. The RP5217 (form filed with Co. Clerk for the State) shows that Resurreccion Dimaculangan is a person not a business or corporation.”

The buyer, a woman known as Rexie has been tangentially involved with the Spirit House Society. It is highly likely that she learned about Spirit House through our efforts. An SU professor emailed me in the late spring telling me that she was interested in our effort and was knowledgeable of museum history/work. I passed her name along to Steering Committee member John Patane who was responsible for the restoration and the physical aspects of the house and asked him to try and involve her.

John told me that he has had several conversations with her since. She attended our Cazenovia Spirit Fair on August 14th. I may have met her, but I tried to meet everyone that day and it was a crazy day for me.

She is on our email list. She never contacted us with her interest to purchase the house or made a stronger effort to be part of the group and help shape and influence our direction as others have.

As noted earlier everything is on hold. We will wait some time before distributing money raised to local historical/environmental groups. The project attracted the interest of area preservationists and historians, as well as members of spiritual and religious communities.The group was in the process of applying for a grant from the state Office of Parks, Recreation and Historical Preservation for acquisition of the 3.5-acre property and exterior restoration when Senner approached the seller in September to obtain a letter of intent to sell the house.
Senner said the seller had agreed to the sale in July, but later asked for a binding purchase offer that could only be superseded by a cash offer.
“We were a little surprised, but thought nothing of it,” Senner wrote in a letter to supporters distributed at last weekend’s fundraiser at Madison Hall in Morrisville. “At the insistence of the owner, we had agreed to pay several thousand more than a recent appraisal showed it was worth, just to make sure we would get the property.”
Senner would not say how much the society offered to pay for the building, but said that as he was preparing a formal contract, the broker called to say the seller had received and accepted a cash offer.
“We were shocked,” Senner said. “The broker assured me that a buyer mysteriously appeared after almost three years of being on the market.”
Senner said the news is particularly frustrating because of growing support from local tourism officials, who said the project could spur the local economy.
“Folks would come here, and then stop in Peterboro or go to learn about Matilda Joslyn Gage,” Senner said.
“The museum model struggles,” he continued. “Through our events we showed that spirituality could be an economic driving force that could help save Spirit House and possibly help other historic sites.”
Senner said one of his biggest worries revolves around the restoration of the historic site. Early estimates for needed repairs topped $200,000, with at least $78,000 to paint the ornate exterior.
“That is just to stabilize it, not even doing anything inside,” he said.
In less than a year, Senner has grown his vision into a group that boasts 80 members and has nearly 300 names on its email list. Senner declined to say how much recent fundraising events have brought in, but said the money would be distributed to local historical organizations when the property is officially sold to another owner.
The property’s owner, Valerie Wilson, could not be reached for comment.
Senner said he would continue to hold out hope until the property officially changes hands. In the meantime, fundraising efforts have been suspended.
“If the community can’t use it, I would see it as a loss,” he said of Spirit House.

Contact Alaina Potrikus at 470-3252 or apotrikus@syracuse.com.madis sennerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11542103505479015230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975659294375597739.post-28184524755792417232011-11-01T08:46:00.000-07:002011-11-01T08:48:31.150-07:00Spirit House Sold??????????Dear Spirit House Society Member,

In an update sent to you on September 29th we had noted that there was a cash offer made for Spirit House. It appears that this transaction will take place shortly. We will not be filing for a NYS grant on October 31st because the seller, Valerie Wilson, would not sign our purchase offer and told us of the pending sale. We don’t know who this buyer is or their plans. We are putting our operations on hold and will wait to see what happens. As promised we will distribute the money that we raised to local historical and environmental groups at the earliest in 6 to 12 months pending developments with Spirit House.

The Details: In late September we approached the buyer to get a letter of intent to sell the house, which we needed for our NYS Parks Grant Application. The seller had agreed to this in July, but now wanted a binding purchase offer that could only be superseded by a cash offer. We were a little surprised, but thought nothing of it. At the insistence of the owner we had agreed to pay several thousand more than a recent appraisal showed it was worth, just to make sure we would get the property. I told the broker that I would get her a formal contract shortly and was busy with the newsletter and planning for the Madison County Halloween. One week later I got a call from the broker telling me that the seller had received and accepted a cash offer for Spirit House. We were shocked. The broker assured me that a buyer mysteriously appeared after almost three years of being on the market.

When I called NY Parks they told me that they see this all the time. A buyer anticipating a grant, runs in front of a group and buys a historical home. She mentioned a home in NY Mills among others.

Since I began this effort almost a year ago a lot of good things have happened. One of our members, Joscelyn Godwin, wrote a book on Spirit House, a community of people with diverse interests has supported SHS, many of which will remain lifelong friends. We have also brought an enthusiasm and hope that extended beyond our group. Through our events we showed that spirituality could be an economic driving force that that could help save Spirit House and possibly help other historic sites. This is important because the museum model struggles. The many letters of support for our grant that we received witnessed the enthusiasm for the SHS from prominent Madison County officials and citizens. Many felt that Spirit House could become an international tourist destination and potential anchor for other historical places in greater upstate NY. We believe that as well and had just initiated our nascent “Burned Over District” effort to educate people about upstate NY’s gems, www.burned-overdistrict.org. Upstate is wonderful place, it just needs to learn as Socrates taught: “Know Thyself.”

To me it has always been about the land that encompasses SH. I feel that the SH property is a truly spiritual place that all should be able to enjoy and benefit from. It is something special; its owners have felt this. Alice Cossit’s family lived there almost 90 years and Helen Katorie refused to sell it for two decades fearing it would bring about her death. It is also a property that I believe selects its owners and sadly, at this time, it appears that our (SHS) dream of making it a retreat center open to all is not going to be a part of it.

We are going stop our fund-raising efforts, etc., and wait to see what happens. Perhaps Spirit House still will call. At some point all money raised will be given to local groups.
Sincerely,
Madis Senner
www.spirithousesociety.orgmadis sennerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11542103505479015230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975659294375597739.post-68805372187273228992011-10-31T08:54:00.000-07:002017-03-08T12:26:23.616-08:00Orbs/Spirits--The Ghost Walk at Madison Hall in Morrisville on Oct 29th was very lively!Are They Orbs, Spirits, Or??????
A Very Lively Ghost Walk
Madison County Halloween, Oct. 29th

Please see attached pictures.

We had a very lively and exciting ghost walk Saturday night (10/29/11) at Madison Hall in Morrisville; it was part of the Madison County Halloween, a fund raiser for the Spirit House Society. Attached you will find a copy of picture taken by a reporter (Mike Jaquays) for the Mid-York Weekly out of Hamilton. Graphic Designer Linda Donaldson of Imagine Design and Spirit House Society Steering Committee has put in some arrows to highlight the many orbs in the picture; the other attached picture does not have arrows. There are several house and car lights in the picture.

It’s About Mother Earth
Madis Senner dressed in a hunter’s costume is standing in front of Madison Hall right next to an earth chakra. Earth chakras (to see a video on earth chakras: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XFNzglbm16o) like human chakras are power points where energy is pulled in to be distributed into the physical earth by Mother Earth. As noted in the talk it is at power points such as this where people can feel things, see things and orbs or spirits may appear in pictures.

The walk and talk was really more about exploring Mother Earth and the unseen world rather than a traditional ghost walk. People learned and experienced first hand how Mother Earth is often behind our mystical experiences and knowing her features and where to go is critical. Energy points can cause earth lights or give you a dose of energy that can help you see another reality. In other words, during a ghost sighting we are often either seeing an aspect of Mother Earth or we are being boosted by Mother Earth’s geomagnetic field which is empowering us to see another reality.

Participants visited many other places in and around Madison Hall. Everyone had a great time, many felt things.

Of course everyone smudged themselves afterwards.
Admission is $5.

Skits—Loomis Gang and Fox Sisters
Susan Greenhagen (Morrisville historian) and her sister Dorothy De Angelo will be performing two skits. At 12 noon they will do their entertaining Loomis Gang shtick. The Loomis gang terrorized Central NY in the 1850’s and 1860’s, burned down Madison Hall and lived close to Morrisville. The skit will begin with their video on the Loomis Gang, Frontier Justice, followed by a dressed up Sheriff Bonnie telling the story of the Loomis Gang. At 6 pm, dressed up as Maggie and Kate Fox, they will perform their hilarious light hearted look at Spiritualism. Spirit House was a Mecca of Spiritualism in the 19th century and the Fox Sisters are credited with starting the Spiritualist movement in 1848. See picture below.

Iroquois Ghost Stories
Doug George-Kanentiio will entertain us with Iroquois Ghost Stories at 3 pm. Hear tales of sorcerers, stone giants and flying heads that are part of the Haudenosaunee Indian tradition. Truly a unique opportunity.

The mysterious Louis Muller
As much as Spirit House is shrouded by mystery, so is Louis Muller who escaped Napoleon to Muller Hill within 5 miles of Spirit House. It said that he always had a body guard next to him, created secret tunnels and hiding places fearing that Napoleon would send assassins to America to kill him. Who was Louis Muller? At 5 pm Madison County Historian Matthew Urtz will tell us, and lay the mysteries bare.

Historical Groups
The Oneida Mansion, the Abolitionist Hall of Fame, Morrisville Historical, the Peterboro Association and of course the Spirit House Society and more will tabling at the event and answering questions. Feel free to ask them questions about their efforts and Madison County history.

Spirit House, Healings
Talks on Spirit House will take place at 10 am, 2 pm and 7 pm. At 11AM and 4PM two healers from Madison County will provide us with insights on alternative therapies. Skits and talks will take place on the main stage on the second floor.

A Witch’s Brew
The Madison County Halloween will also feature ghost walks, children’s’ story tellers, a dash of psychics/readers, a pinch of metaphysical vendors and a handful of healers. There will be a silent auction. Fine food and sandwiches made with homemade breads by Red & White Café of DeRuyter; and of course their “monster cookies.” “It’s an eclectic group with a lot to offer, but I guess that is what the Spirit House Society is all about” Senner said.

madis sennerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11542103505479015230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975659294375597739.post-38179377283105587202011-09-19T19:37:00.000-07:002011-09-19T19:39:49.706-07:00Madison County Courier ArticleClikc on link to see picture: http://www.madisoncountycourier.com/2011/09/18/a-%E2%80%98madison-county-halloween%E2%80%99-planned-at-madison-hall/

A ‘Madison County Halloween’ Planned at Madison Hall
September 18, 2011 By margo Leave a Comment

Spirit House Society News
(Morrisville, NY – Sept. 2011) Madison Hall will be the place to be Oct. 29, from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., for the Spirit House Society’s first-ever Halloween Spirit Fair.
The event will feature readers, healers, ghost walks, story tellers and more to benefit the Spirit House Society’s work in trying to purchase and restore the historic building in Georgetown.
Admission is $5, kids under 14 and dogs will be free; each child and dog must be accompanied by at least one adult.
The Spirit Fair in Cazenovia was a SUCCESS

Thanks to the attendees, vendors and the media for helping making our (Spirit House Society) Spirit Fair in Cazenovia at the American legion this past Sunday, August 14th, a success.

About 200 people, not including kids and dogs came. A hundred people signed up for our newsletter and eleven new members joined the Spirit House Society.

Everyone had a good time. A few people brought their kids and several people brought their pets for a pet reading with a pet psychic. All added to a festive atmosphere.

It was not only a success for the Spirit House Society, but vendors participating did well also. Many readers were booked solid from 10am to 6pm. Red and White Café from DeRuyter served up some great dishes from mango muffins, to cauliflower curry soup, to sandwiches made with their homemade breads.

Some News clips
We got mention by just about by all of the media, most notably by the Post Standard on Saturday. http://www.syracuse.com/news/index.ssf/2011/08/spirit_societys_holds_fair_in.html

Channel 3 WSTM came by on Sunday; unfortunately I was not able to find the segment on their webpage. You can see YNN”s segment by clicking on: http://centralny.ynn.com/content/553581/spirit-house-society-hosts-benefit/

Building Our Business
The importance of this event goes beyond the fun we had and the money that we raised. It marks the beginning of building our business, or least one of our businesses focused on the metaphysical and spiritual side of things. We are building momentum call it energy, with our events, through our newsletter and members that we hope will transfer over to Spirit House. So that should we succeed in getting funding from NYS for purchase that we will be able to hit the ground running and hold events and attract people from the get go.

To Help Pay Architect

Money raised will help pay for preservation architects Crawford and Stearns and building up cash reserves. Carl Stearns is currently working on putting together a conditions report on Spirit House that we will need in applying for an acquisition grant with the New York State Parks, Recreation and Historic Preservation.

Going Forward

Our next event is tentatively planned for Saturday October 29, 2011.

Updated Focus—Given the increased participation of historians and preservationists in our effort I have begun updating our documents to reflect such. I included the following on our web page and will make other adjustments as well: At the same time we look to honor Spirit House’s rich history and architecture and have it be a place where the historic and preservation minded can learn and observe. We are a diverse group with varying interests that are gathering to save this historic place.(<a title="blocked::http://www.youtube.com/watch?v="" href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNUrYOIsiIk" target="_blank">Spirit House Society Video)< font> Sincerely, Madismadis sennerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11542103505479015230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975659294375597739.post-49684402766460119942011-03-28T14:53:00.000-07:002011-03-28T14:54:09.682-07:00PicturesWe have begun to post pictures from our visit on Saturday: http://spirithousesocietypictures.blogspot.com/madis sennerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11542103505479015230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975659294375597739.post-57761245167466337552011-03-26T12:50:00.000-07:002011-03-26T12:54:34.492-07:00Today's VisitToday's visit was a fun filled success. Terry Blowers stated that the House is structurally sound. Joscelyn Godwin brought a series of floors plans going back to the original house. Wow. Having the house gutted has exposed lots of old timbers and other features. Fortunately, some of the molding that had been pulled was kept. As much as we hope to raise money we are also hoping to raise awareness about our effort nationally and globally. We hope that this will help us longer term should we be able to acquire Spirit House once we open the doors for visitors. It certainly gets us identified beyond the upstate NY area.madis sennerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11542103505479015230noreply@blogger.com0tag:blogger.com,1999:blog-975659294375597739.post-3019470740681971212011-03-01T17:32:00.000-08:002011-03-01T17:35:13.928-08:00VidoeThe following video about Spirit House and our effort to buy and restore it has been posted on YouTube: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tNUrYOIsiIkmadis sennerhttp://www.blogger.com/profile/11542103505479015230noreply@blogger.com0
